Dreaming of a metropolis

In the 1980s, together with jazz café Dizzy and Café Sjaan, Lux was one of a series of cafés and restaurants that attracted a new, young clientele to the area on and around the ’s-Gravendijkwal. Lux gave a significant boost to the now thriving culinary scene in Rotterdam by introducing Italian trattoria cuisine to the city. That influence can still be felt today. Many talented chefs started their careers at Lux and spread across Rotterdam opening their own restaurants and, because of their shared origins, they all see themselves as part of a family.
